How to export a de-identified copy of a study

← Back to Quick Guide

  1. On the study's file card (or in Imaging for an inbox study), open the export menu and choose De-identified copy (zip).
  2. The copy follows the DICOM de-identification standard (PS3.15 Basic Profile): the patient's name becomes DEIDENTIFIED, the ID becomes a token that is the same for the same patient at your practice (so two studies can still be paired), the birth date is removed but age and sex are kept, every date is shifted by one constant offset so intervals are preserved, the scanner make and model are kept, the institution, referring doctor and all private vendor tags are removed, and every UID is replaced. The copy says what was done in its own header.
  3. The pictures themselves are not checked. If a panoramic or screenshot has a name or date burned into the image, the de-identified copy still shows it — look before you share. For teaching and research use, a reviewer or IRB may also want the de-identification method stated; it is in the file and in the README inside the zip.
