- Open the image; single images and 2D series open in the radiograph section. A JPEG or PNG attached to a referral has the same AllyVue button on its card: it opens as a radiograph (the server keeps a DICOM copy beside it; pixels unchanged, no scale until you calibrate). Carestream .rvg (intraoral) and .pano (panoramic) files are DICOM under another name — upload or export them as they are (Upload case, a referral attachment, or the Agent's folder) and they open with their own 0.019 mm pixel spacing, no calibration needed. Single images and 2D series open in the stack viewer with Length, Angle, Probe, Rectangle, Ellipse, Bidirectional and Arrow tools, Invert, contrast presets and a magnifier.
- If the image arrived mirrored or sideways, use Flip left–right, Flip up–down or Rotate 90° in the toolbox (display only).
- Enhance (unsharp mask) steepens edges on screen; Crisp turns off upscaling blur. Enhance is display only, and measuring tools are disarmed while it is on.
- If measurements show px instead of mm, the file carries no pixel spacing. Draw a Length across something of known size (a reference ball, a file of known length), type its true length under Scale in the side panel and click Calibrate. Every measurement on that image is then scaled to that reference, which the panel names; Remove calibration returns to the file's own values. The calibration is kept on this device and is not written into the file.
